Fabric Care InformationUpdated 15 days ago
At DressMeZee, we’re known for our quality and standout finishes, including glitter, sequins, and embellishments. These materials are selected for their unique appearance, but they do require extra care to maintain their look over time.
As many of our garments are made from a variety of fabrics, care requirements can differ between styles. We always recommend referring to the care label attached to your garment, as this provides the most accurate, item-specific instructions.
The guidance below is intended as general advice to help you maintain the look and quality of your items.
Cleaning & Care Guidelines
For most embellished, satin, or structured pieces, professional dry cleaning is the safest option to protect the garment’s shape and finish.
If the item is suitable for hand washing, wash gently in cold water. Avoid soaking, and do not wring or twist the fabric.
Machine washing is not recommended, as it may damage delicate fabrics, embellishments, and the garment’s overall structure.
Steaming & Ironing
We recommend steaming using a handheld garment steamer to remove creases safely.
If ironing is necessary, use a low heat setting and place a cloth between the iron and the fabric. Do not apply direct heat to sequins, glitter, or embellishments.
Glitter & Embellishment Fallout
Is shedding normal?
Yes. Some shedding is completely normal and expected with these fabrics. As part of the production process, surface particles or fine embellishments may naturally loosen during transit or initial wear.
Although we select high-quality fabrics and take every care to reduce fallout, a small amount of loose glitter may come away—particularly when the item is new.
Some light shedding may occur over time, especially in areas of friction. This is a natural characteristic of the fabric and is not considered a manufacturing fault.
How to reduce fallout:
- A gentle shake: Lightly shake the item outdoors before first wear to remove any loose surface glitter
- Storage: Store the garment in its original packaging or a garment bag to prevent transfer onto other items
- Minimal friction: Avoid rubbing against bags, jewellery, or other fabrics
Lotions, Oils & Fragrances
To protect delicate fibres and finishes, we recommend being mindful of beauty products.
- Staining: Tanning lotions, body oils, and some moisturisers may discolour delicate fabrics, especially lighter shades
- Application: Ensure products are fully dry before dressing. Apply perfume before putting on your outfit
Fabric Clicks & Snags
Due to the delicate nature of fabrics such as lace, mesh, and satin, garments may be more susceptible to snagging.
- Jewellery & accessories: Take care with rings, watches, and chain bags
- Handling: Be mindful of sharp nails when dressing
Snags caused during wear are not considered a manufacturing fault.
Fabric Bobbling (Pilling)
Bobbling can occur when fabrics are exposed to friction.
- Friction points: Common under the arms or where bags rub against the fabric
- Maintenance: Can be removed with a fabric shaver to restore a smooth finish
Pilling is a result of wear and is not a fabric defect.
Returns & Suitability
If you feel the fabric isn’t right for you, or you are not satisfied upon arrival, you are welcome to return your item within 14 days.
Items must be unused, in their original condition, and with all tags attached. We are unable to accept returns for items that have been marked by tanning products or lotions, or items that have been snagged or damaged during wear.
